The Sand | |
![]() | The beaches around Apalachicola are among the finest in the world. Crystalquartz sand has washed down the rivers from the Apalachian mountains forcenturies, depositing their white crystals on the beaches of the blue Gulfof Mexico waters. Seen from a distance, the dunes often look like snowdrifts. Held in place by delicatecoastal plants like the sea oats, the dunes build during good weather, and are washed away during the hurricanes, only to repeat the cycles. The glare fromthe water and sand can combine and create conditions for very nasty sunburns.Use your sun block religiously. |
